Mumbai-Solapur Vande Bharat Express Derails at Pune Station; No Injuries
A coach of the Mumbai-Solapur Vande Bharat Express derailed at a diamond crossing while entering Pune station. No passenger was injured. Central Railway has prioritised replacement of non-standard diamond crossings.
A coach of the Mumbai-Solapur Vande Bharat Express derailed on Monday evening while entering Pune railway station in Maharashtra. According to Central Railway officials, no passenger was injured in the incident.
Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Dr Swapnil Nila said one trolley of the fourth coach of the train, running from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Solapur, came off the rails at the diamond crossing while entering the platform at around 7:30 PM. A diamond crossing is a railway track layout where two tracks intersect at an angle, allowing trains to cross without switching lines.
The railways said the crossing upgrade had already been planned as part of the yard remodelling at Pune station. Affected passengers were shifted to another rake. Central Railway said the diamond crossing would be replaced on priority and that similar non-standard diamond crossings across Indian Railways would also be upgraded.
The incident draws attention to the safety of legacy track infrastructure on busy passenger routes and to the broader theme of yard modernisation as Indian Railways expands its high-speed Vande Bharat fleet.
Exam angle: Railway-safety topics frequently appear in current affairs. Aspirants should know what a diamond crossing is, the route of the train (CSMT-Solapur), and the broader programme of yard remodelling and track upgrades on Indian Railways.
