India to host the 4th India-Africa Forum Summit on 31 May 2026
India will host the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit on 31 May 2026 in New Delhi under the theme 'IA SPIRIT', the first such meeting since 2015 and a test of strengthened ties after the African Union joined the G20.
The Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed that India will host the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-IV) on 31 May 2026 in New Delhi. Preparations and theme launches were prominent in current-affairs material around 22 April 2026. The Summit is being organised in collaboration with the African Union Commission and will be the first such gathering since IAFS-III in 2015.
The theme for IAFS-IV is 'IA SPIRIT: India-Africa Strategic Partnership for Innovation, Resilience and Inclusive Transformation'. The high-level meeting is expected to bring together heads of state and government from across Africa, senior African Union officials and representatives of regional economic communities. India hosted the first two summits where they were feasible to convene many leaders – IAFS-I in 2008 in New Delhi and IAFS-III in 2015, also in New Delhi – while IAFS-II was held in Addis Ababa in 2011.
Discussions are expected to focus on trade, lines of credit and concessional financing, digital public infrastructure, health and pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, defence cooperation, food security and climate adaptation. Trade between India and Africa has crossed USD 100 billion in recent years, and India is among the largest investors and development partners on the continent. The African Union joined the G20 as a permanent member at the 2023 New Delhi Summit, giving fresh momentum to the IAFS process.
Exam angle: Remember the four IAFS dates and venues – 2008 New Delhi, 2011 Addis Ababa, 2015 New Delhi, 2026 New Delhi – and the theme of IAFS-IV. Also note that the African Union became a permanent G20 member at the 2023 New Delhi Summit, an important UPSC GS-2 talking point.
